Matt Canvas Products

The Commercial Edition 390 Matt and Sihl Luna Matt 340 are matt silica coated polyester/cotton products that are chosen to compliment each other.

The Commercial product has a more regular texture but is still noticeably a canvas while Luna has an irregular texture that is often associated with fine art reproduction.

Both canvas types are extremely crack resistant, hand stretchable and are made exclusively for water based printers.

While these products can be sold as “decor” canvas without liquid lamination, it is highly recommended they they be sealed with Aquathane or Gicleeshield to enhance dmax and color gamut and add considerable protection against fade and physical abrasion.

Both products can be further enhanced by the usage of the coating thickener Gicleeshield Stroke to add brush strokes or small objects to the printed surface.

Satin/Low Sheen Canvas Products 

Satin or Low sheen products resemble oil paintings when they are printed. Their black levels or dmax is considerably greater than matt types and should be used when registration in deep shadows is required.

The Premium Edition and Luna Satin are like their Matt counterparts, complimentary products that differ in texture. As with the matt derivatives these products can be used as “decor” art when uncoated.

Satin products for water based printing have limited water resistance and should be spray coated (never roll coated) to be sold as fine art. The uncoated gloss level is highly dependent on the ink manufacturer.

The Commercial Solvent canvas has a much lighter coating and although acid free is most often sold uncoated due to its native satin finish. Whilst signage printers often have white inks and can adhere to raw canvas, this is a high quality and reliability material  that is specially coated for the purpose of decor giclee.
